GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS AND SUPPORTERS
As produced by Auckland Tennis and distributed to all clubs.
Auckland Tennis request that we issue these rules to each interclub player and parent.
Sometimes issues develop between players or between parents over the umpiring of games. To minimise issues, these rules have been produced by Auckland Tennis to ensure consistency in the rules.
All players and parents from the opposing team should also have seen and been issued with these rules.
Parents, coaches, friends and spectators are part of the support team for junior players. During matches your principle function is to let players play and enjoy themselves while giving them encouragement in the normal sporting manner.
Here are some do's and don'ts for the support team.
Do - Applaud good play and winning shots by both players. - Keep outside the court area (behind fences & off court surface). - Accept the decisions of officials & line calls of players.
Do Not - Communicate with players verbally or by signal during a match (including end changes) - Call the lines from outside the court - the players call their own lines and in the case of a disputed call the Chair Umpire makes the call. Their decision is final.
Beginners Grade - One parent may accompany the umpire to help with the scoring only. They must not call the lines or in any way interfere with the umpire who is to follow the instructions outlined for Chair Umpiring (see link on main page).
- Parents may umpire only where an extra court is available and by mutual agreement of both teams, and they follow the rules outlined
